A California civil action filed in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles has named Artists for Artists DE LLC, the entertainment production company co-founded by actor and comedian Kenan Thompson, in a lawsuit concerning an alleged investment agreement, access to company records, accounting rights, project revenue, and related business damages.
The complaint was filed by Shwin Productions LLC against Artists for Artists DE LLC and John Ryan Jr. According to the pleading, Shwin Productions alleges that it entered into a binding agreement with Artists for Artists in or around August 2025. The complaint further alleges that Shwin Productions subsequently invested more than $583,000 into Artists for Artists pursuant to that agreement.
The lawsuit is centered in part on alleged contractual rights to financial information and company records. Shwin Productions claims that, under the parties’ agreement, it was entitled to receive records and reporting materials relating to the company and its projects. The complaint identifies financial statements, project accounting records, cap table information, member reports, and other company records as materials that Shwin Productions alleges were required to be provided.
According to the complaint, Shwin Productions alleges that those records were not provided as required. The plaintiff contends that the absence of those materials prevents it from determining the complete financial position of its investment, the full amount of revenue allegedly generated during the relevant period, and the amount it claims may be owed under the parties’ agreement. As part of the relief sought, Shwin Productions is requesting a court ordered accounting.
The pleading also includes allegations concerning project revenue. The complaint references Good Sports, a television project identified in the filing, and alleges that Artists for Artists generated revenue from projects developed during the investment period, including Good Sports. Shwin Productions claims that revenue shares were not distributed in accordance with the agreement. The complaint estimates that at least $240,000 may be owed in connection with Good Sports, while alleging that the complete amount cannot be determined without a full accounting of company records.
In addition to its contract and accounting allegations, Shwin Productions asserts claims connected to business relationships and prospective economic opportunities. The complaint alleges that statements made during disputes over financial disclosures harmed potential entertainment investment opportunities and business relationships. The filing references opportunities involving individuals and ventures connected to Range Media Partners, along with other entertainment industry projects.
The complaint asserts five causes of action: breach of contract, accounting, breach of the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing, defamation, and intentional interference with prospective economic advantage. Through the action, Shwin Productions seeks damages, recovery of allegedly unpaid revenue shares, a court ordered accounting, and additional relief to be determined by the court.
The case was filed under Case No. 26VECV03619 in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles.
The allegations described in the complaint are claims asserted by Shwin Productions. The defendants have not yet filed a response in court, and the court has not made any findings regarding the merits of the claims.
